The history of the Paint Horse breed

The Paint Horse is a horse derived from the cross between the Quarter Horse and the wild Mustang, both of North American origin.

They have been around longer than you can imagine. According to Horse Racing Sense, the entity responsible for cataloging several breeds in the United States, the first records of these horses date back to the 5th century AD.

Today, it is one of the most valued and marketed horse breeds in the United States, where it ranks first in price and third in breeding.

Characteristics of Paint Horse horses

The main characteristic of Paint Horse horses is certainly their combination of dark and light spots.

This breed also stands out for its great sense of balance, making it, after all, one of the most disciplined horses in existence. They are considered versatile horses, performing different activities on the farm, that is, they are part of the routine in the field.

These animals have a height between 1.50 m and 1.60 m, while their weight varies between 430 and 540 kilos, considered a little heavier than other horse breeds. Lifespan is around 30 years.

Paint Horse horses' ears are always alert to the slightest noise and their neck also draws attention, being thick and leafy. At the same time, its rear is massive, placing the centers of gravity in strategic places, which allows for an enviable balance.

Although they are employed in various activities, as mentioned above, it is normal for them to participate in competitions, given their characteristics of strength, agility and intelligence, which allows training to be carried out with ease. This is the case, for example, with the three drum modality.

The coloring of horses Paint Horse

Furthermore, the varied colors make this breed of horses unique. They are present in its coat thanks to the crossing with the Quarter Horse breed. In addition to color, such a cross became responsible for giving these animals a muscular body and broad chest.

At first glance it may seem that Paint Horses come in two colors: white and brown (or black). But in fact the white markings are superimposed on the base coat color.

The reason for this is purely genetic. Such a breed carries two separate genes, responsible for its colorful coat: one exclusive to the white spots and another exclusive to the base color.

The interesting thing, even with regard to colors, is that there are no Paint Horse horses exactly alike in this characteristic, making them even more fascinating.

As mentioned above, Paint Horses are distinguished by their exuberance and unique in terms of their colors. So, if you're looking for a unique animal, you've certainly found the right breed.
